Measuring Your Space

Measure the room where your table will go

Find the dimensions of your room with a measuring tape or laser measure tool. Take note of these measurements.

Leave adequate space around your table

We recommend leaving 36 inches or more between your table and walls or furniture around it, plus another 18-24 inches for pulling chairs out. Ideally, allowing for 48 inches of clearance for your table ensures plenty of space for you and your guests.

Hanging light fixtures above your table

Whether you’re considering a chandelier, pendant lighting, or some other light fixture, it should be hung approximately 30 inches above the tabletop to provide adequate lighting and keep sight lines open across the table.

Rug Size vs. Table Size

Any rug placed under your table should be large enough to fit both the table itself and ideally all the legs of the chairs. You can ensure this by measuring 24 inches or more from each side of the table.

Moving your table in

When moving your table into your home, you will want to ensure the table will fit through hallways and entryways leading to it's placement location. Communicating with your furniture designer is key to a smooth delivery.

Standard Table Dimensions

Understanding standard table dimensions helps ensure your custom piece fits perfectly in your space and accommodates your needs comfortably.

These are starting points for your custom piece. We'll work with your specific space measurements and usage needs to determine the perfect dimensions for your furniture.

Dining Tables

A standard dining table height is 28-30 inches, providing comfortable clearance when paired with chairs that are 18 inches high. For width, allow 24-30 inches per person for comfortable dining. A table seating six people typically measures 36 inches wide by 72 inches long, while an eight-person table extends to 96 inches in length. Round tables work well in square rooms, with a 48-inch diameter seating four and a 60-inch diameter accommodating six.

Coffee Tables

These typically stand 16-18 inches tall, allowing easy reach from standard sofa seating. The ideal length is approximately two-thirds the length of your sofa. Leave 14-18 inches between the table edge and seating for comfortable legroom.

Console Tables

Positioned behind sofas or in entryways, console tables usually measure 28-32 inches in height and 12-15 inches in depth, providing display space without overwhelming the room.

Desk Heights

Standard desk height is 28-30 inches, though we can customize this based on your height and chair selection to create an ergonomic workspace.

Table Size & Space Guidelines

What size table is right for you?

The right table size transforms a room from cramped or empty to perfectly balanced and functional. This decision impacts not just aesthetics, but how you'll use and enjoy your space every day.
